EDITORS COMMENTS
In this striking photograph, taken in 1904, we find a gathering of royalty and nobility, including The Duke and Duchess of Fife, their children, and King Edward VII. The Duke of Fife, Alexander William George Duff (1849-1912), is seen here with his wife, Louise Victoria, Princess Royal and Duchess of Fife (1867-1931). The couple's eldest daughter, Alexandra Duff (1891-1959), stands next to her father, while their younger daughter, Maud (1893-1945), sits on her mother's lap. King Edward VII, who reigned from 1901 until his death in 1910, is seated next to the Duchess of Fife, with a regal expression on his face. The Princess of Wales, later Queen Maud of Norway (1869-1938), is also present, dressed in a beautiful white gown and holding a bouquet of flowers. At the time of this photograph, she was married to Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and was known as Princess Maud of Denmark. The connection between the families is evident in this image, as the Duke and Duchess of Fife's eldest daughter, Alexandra, was married to the future King Christian X of Denmark. The photograph captures a moment of warmth and intimacy amidst the grandeur of royal life. The elegantly dressed figures, their expressions and body language, and the richly decorated room all contribute to a sense of opulence and refinement. This image offers a glimpse into the lives of these prominent figures, providing a fascinating window into the world of royalty and nobility at the turn of the 20th century.
