EDITORS COMMENTS
In this lithograph print, we are transported back to the 1840s, a time when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were just beginning their journey as a married couple. Both adorned in the distinguished blue ribbon of the Order of the Garter, they exude elegance and regality. Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, who was also Queen Victoria's first cousin, became her trusted confidant and private advisor after their marriage in 1840. His passion for arts, science, and industry led him to plan the groundbreaking Great Exhibition of 1851. However, tragedy struck when he succumbed to typhoid fever in 1861. The devastating loss deeply affected Queen Victoria; she donned mourning attire for the remaining four decades of her life. This poignant image captures not only their youthful love but also serves as a reminder of the profound impact Prince Albert had on his beloved queen. As we gaze upon this lithograph print by an unknown creator from Heritage Images' collection, we cannot help but be drawn into their world—a world filled with romance and devotion amidst royal duties. The vibrant colors bring forth a sense of vibrancy that contrasts with the somber undertones that would later define Queen Victoria's reign. This portrait immortalizes two figures who left an indelible mark on British history—the sovereign ruler and her cherished prince consort—forever united through love and duty.
