Taken by artist Michael Walters, it showcases the art of typesetting at the South Yorkshire Times in Mexborough, South Yorkshire. In this bustling scene, we see dedicated typesetters meticulously composing pages for publication. The image reveals an intricate process where wooden or metal blocks called furniture were skillfully used to wedge the type against the chase. The photograph offers a glimpse into an era when newspapers were crafted with precision and care. The industrial setting exudes a sense of purpose and dedication as workers diligently carry out their tasks amidst stacks of papers and typographical equipment.
