EDITORS COMMENTS
In this monochrome self-portrait, photographer Dave Fobister takes us back in time to the era of film cameras. Dressed in a stylish hat and overcoat, Fobister exudes an air of old-world charm as he holds his trusty 35mm camera with both hands. The image is steeped in historical significance, reminding us of the artistry and patience required before the digital age. Fobister's face remains obscured by the viewfinder, adding an element of mystery to this introspective moment. His focused expression suggests that he is meticulously adjusting the settings, ensuring every detail will be captured flawlessly on film. Through his skilled use of composition and lighting, Fobister captures not only his own reflection but also a glimpse into a bygone era. The grayscale palette enhances the timeless quality of this photograph while emphasizing contrasts between light and shadow. It invites viewers to appreciate photography as an art form that transcends technological advancements. This self-portrait serves as a testament to Fobister's passion for capturing moments through traditional means. With each snap of the shutter, he immortalizes fragments of life within silver grains on celluloid—a tangible reminder that even amidst our fast-paced digital world, there is still beauty in slowing down and embracing simplicity.
