Us-Largest Cranes-Golden Gate

Four of the worlds largest cranes squeak under the Golden Gate Bridge by seven feet (210cm) 24 October, 2000, in San Francisco Bay. The 220- feet (66 meters) high cranes which were manufactured by the Zhenhua Port Machinery Company of Shanghai, China, will have to slip under the San Francisco Bay Bridge 25 October with exactly 22 inches (55cm) to spare, the tightest squeeze in bridge history. The cranes are destined for the Port of Oakland in California. (FILM) AFP PHOTO/John G. MABANGLO / AFP PHOTO / JOHN G. MABANGLO

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo captures a remarkable moment in history as four of the world's largest cranes make their way under the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Taken on October 24,2000, in San Francisco Bay, this image showcases the sheer magnitude and precision required to navigate these colossal structures through such a tight space. Standing at an impressive height of 220 feet (66 meters), these massive cranes were crafted by the Zhenhua Port Machinery Company of Shanghai, China. Their destination? The bustling Port of Oakland in California. However, before reaching their final stop, they had to face another daunting challenge: slipping under the San Francisco Bay Bridge with only 22 inches (55cm) to spare – a feat that would go down in bridge history as the tightest squeeze ever attempted. As we gaze upon this photograph, we can't help but marvel at both human ingenuity and engineering prowess. The juxtaposition between these towering mechanical giants and the elegant silhouette of one of America's most recognizable landmarks is truly awe-inspiring. It serves as a testament to mankind's ability to conquer seemingly insurmountable obstacles for progress. Photographer John G. Mabanglo has masterfully captured this extraordinary moment from Agence France-Presse (AFP). His lens skillfully frames not just an incredible industrial achievement but also highlights our unwavering determination to push boundaries and shape our world for generations to come.
