17 inch Howitzer model at the Imperial War Museum. The King figures in a wonderful war
17 inch Howitzer model at the Imperial War Museum. The King figures in a wonderful war model. One of the most remarkable war models in the world is being placed on view by the Imperial War Museum, a notable feature of the model being a small portrait figure of the King at the Front (seen on the left). The model shows a 12 inch Mark V Howitzer on a railway mounting with the gun crew in action after firing a round. The King and the Prince of Wales are seen watching the crew at work. The perfectly reproduced Howitzer and mounting were made by Sir W C Armstrong Whitworth & Co. Ltd. and were purchased from them by the Imperial War Museum. The setting and figures were modelled by H H Cawood (late Lance-Corporal, Machine Gun Corps) under the direction of the Imperial War Museum staff. The figures are actually 4 inches high. The Queen has been pleased to accept a replica of the figure of the King. Pictured, a general view of the model. The figure of the King is seen on the left. December 1921

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a truly remarkable war model on display at the Imperial War Museum. Standing tall at 17 inches, this Howitzer model is an absolute marvel to behold. What makes it even more special is the inclusion of a small portrait figure of the King himself, positioned proudly at the Front. The intricately detailed model showcases a 12 inch Mark V Howitzer mounted on a railway, with its gun crew in action after firing a round. As if frozen in time, both the King and the Prince of Wales can be seen observing the crew's work with great interest. Crafted by Sir W C Armstrong Whitworth & Co. Ltd. , renowned for their precision engineering skills, this perfectly reproduced Howitzer and mounting were acquired by the Imperial War Museum for public viewing. The setting and figures were expertly modeled by H H Cawood under the guidance of museum staff. Standing at just 4 inches high, these meticulously crafted figures bring life to this extraordinary scene. Such was its significance that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth graciously accepted a replica of the figure representing her beloved husband. In this December 1921 photograph, we are treated to a general view of this awe-inspiring war model where every detail has been painstakingly recreated. It serves as both an educational tool and a testament to human ingenuity during times of conflict.
