Royal Naval College, Dartmouth EPW024215

ROYAL NAVAL COLLEGE, Dartmouth, Devon, photographed in 1928. This officer training college was purpose built on this site in 1905 to a design by Sir Aston Webb. The college originated in 1863 and had previously housed students in hulks moored on the River Dart. Cadets as young as 13 were trained here in naval skills and leadership. Graduates from Dartmouth provided much of the officer corps of the Royal Navy through both World Wars. The present Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and Duke of York all attended the college. Now known as the Britannia Royal Naval College, this building still provides a training base for naval officers of many foreign and commonwealth countries as well as the Royal Navy. A portrait of Mrs Lillie Langtry. Born Emilie Charlotte Le Breton, was a British music hall singer and stage actress famous for her many stage productions including She Stoops to Conquer, The Lady of Lyons and As You Like It.
She had a number of relationships with British Royals, firstly as the Royal mistress of The Prince of Wales, Albert Edward. As that ended she began an affair with the Earl of Shrewsbury. She also had a brief affair with the German Prince Louis of Battenberg

Naval group, mostly relatives of Queen Victoria, including (left to right): Prince Alfred Duke of Edinburgh and Duke of Saxe-Coburg Gotha (second son); possibly Prince Leopold Duke of Albany (grandson); Edward Prince of Wales (eldest son and soon to be King Edward VII, seated); Prince Henry of Prussia (grandson); probably Prince Louis of Battenberg (grandson by marriage); Prince George Duke of York (grandson, later to be George V).
This photograph must predate 1900 when Prince Alfred passed away, handing the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg Gotha to his nephew Leopold
