In this photo print, taken in 1954, we are transported back to the Arts Theatre just off Leicester Square. The air is filled with anticipation as mothers proudly bring their talented children for auditions of a new Harold Baim production film called "Starting Young". The scene captures a young girl named Susan Hyrons, aged seven, sitting nervously on the floor while waiting for the judges' decision. Her eyes sparkle with excitement and her heart pounds with hope. In an attempt to ease her nerves, Susan breaks into a spontaneous little dance that showcases her natural talent and exuberance. The judges stand alongside each other, observing the performances before them. From right to left, we see Harold Baim himself - the visionary director behind this promising project. Beside him stands Glenda Freeman, undoubtedly an expert in spotting raw talent among these young performers. Completing the panel is Mrs Laura Freedman who brings her own unique perspective to judging these aspiring stars. To add melodious charm to this audition process is pianist Ray Holder seated at the extreme left of our frame. His nimble fingers effortlessly create enchanting tunes that accompany each child's performance. This photograph encapsulates not only a moment frozen in time but also represents dreams unfolding on stage as children showcase their diverse talents - from song and dance routines to recitations and acrobatic displays.
