Diana, Princes of Wales. Huge crowds greeted the Prince

Diana, Princes of Wales.
Huge crowds greeted the Prince and Princess of Wales when they arrived in Warwickshire Today. They lined the streets hours before the couple arrived for the first royal visit to Atherstone in 500 years. The onlookers loved them - especially Princess Dianas pretty blue and white hat, with a blue veil. They arrived by train and were driven along the bunting-hung main street to a Market Place walkabout. Factory bosses had given workers time off to see the visitors and most schools in the area brought cheering crowds of youngsters to greet the royal couple. In St Marys parish church the couple saw an exhibition of the towns history, arranged as part of the Atherstone Festival, including a display of the towns hat-making history. Later they saw a special development by North Warwickshire borough council to encourage new industry into the area, visited a centre for the physically handicapped and talked to children at Race Meadow first and Atherstone North middle schools.
