EDITORS COMMENTS
In this enchanting photograph, Princess Maud of Wales, the youngest daughter of King Edward VII, is seen in her stunning wedding dress, adorned in ivory satin, for her marriage to Prince Carl of Denmark on January 25, 1896. The exquisite gown, woven at Spitalfields, boasts a plain skirt edged with a chiffon ruche, delicately dotted with orange blossom, jessamine, and myrtle, symbolizing love, purity, and fertility. The 4 1/2 yard long train, a grand display of opulence, is decorated with bows of chiffon and flowers, mirroring the low bodice, which is similarly trimmed with chiffon and silver embroidery. The deep belt at the waist adds an elegant touch to the gown, accentuating her slender figure. Princess Maud's wedding day was a grand affair, marking the beginning of her journey as Queen of Norway. This Victorian-era image captures the essence of a royal bride in her most beautiful moment, a timeless symbol of love, elegance, and tradition.
