Titanic postcard from passenger and victim Alfonzo Meo
White Star Line, RMS Titanic - postcard written by Third-Class passenger and victim Alfonzo Meo-Martino from Queenstown, Ireland, on 11 April 1912. The card bears a short message to his brother, with the postmark denoting the card was on board Titanic and posted from Queenstown. It was rediscovered in an album of period Ocean Liner cards by the present vendor. Alfonzo Meo, 48, was an Italian musician living in Bournemouth who boarded the ship in Southampton, heading for Washington. His body was recovered by the CS Mackay Bennett and buried at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on 10 May 1912. It is believed that Meo was the inspiration for the character of Fabrizio in the blockbuster 1997 movie. (1 of 2) Date: 1912

EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant postcard, bearing the message "Dear Brother, Arrived on board RMS Titanic in good health, hoping this finds you the same. Wish you were here with me. Alfonzo Meo, Queenstown, April 11, 1912," was penned by Third-Class passenger Alfonzo Meo-Martino before he embarked on the ill-fated voyage from Ireland to America. The postcard, discovered in an album of period ocean liner cards, carries a postmark that confirms it was on board the Titanic when it called at Queenstown. Meo, a 48-year-old Italian musician residing in Bournemouth, had boarded the White Star Line ship in Southampton, en route to Washington. Tragically, his life was cut short when the Titanic struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912. His body was later recovered and buried at Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on May 10, 1912. It is believed that Meo's story served as inspiration for the character of Fabrizio in the blockbuster 1997 movie, "Titanic." This poignant relic from the past transports us back to a time of grand maritime transportation and the tragic human stories that unfolded on the high seas.
