1821 1898 Baker Bonnet Eddy Elderly Founder Taught

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, during her final teaching class in 1898. Born on July 16, 1821, in Bow, New Hampshire, Eddy spent her early years as a devout Christian, but her health and spiritual wellbeing began to decline in her mid-thirties. Seeking answers, she read extensively on religious and metaphysical topics, leading her to develop her unique understanding of the Bible and the nature of God. In 1866, Eddy published her groundbreaking work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which introduced her Christian Science teachings to the world. Over the following decades, she traveled extensively, sharing her message and healing thousands through her unique approach to spiritual healing. By the time this photograph was taken in 1898, Eddy was in her late seventies, but her spirit remained vibrant and unwavering. She is seen here, dressed in a white bonnet and cross collar, her hair pulled back in a neat bun, a warm smile playing at the corners of her lips. This image serves as a poignant reminder of Eddy's enduring legacy as a trailblazing spiritual leader and the founder of a religious movement that continues to inspire millions today. Mary Baker Eddy's teachings on the power of prayer and the inherent goodness of God continue to resonate with people around the world. Her life and work serve as a testament to the power of the human spirit and the enduring capacity for transformation and growth.
