Ney rose to prominence on the battlefields of Europe, most notably at Jena where he played a crucial role in the French victory over the Prussian army. His military prowess continued to shine during the disastrous retreat from Moscow, where he managed to save a significant portion of the French forces from certain destruction. However, Ney's fortunes would take a dramatic turn at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Despite his initial success in leading the French cavalry charge, Ney was eventually captured by the Allied forces. In a shocking turn of events, he was put on trial for his participation in Napoleon Bonaparte's "Hundred Days" campaign and was shamefully shot by firing squad on December 7, 1815.
