EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning photograph captures the elegance and grandeur of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, on the day of her coronation in 1937. The Queen, who was the consort of King George VI, wore this magnificent dress designed and created by the renowned British fashion house, Handley-Seymour. The dress, made of English silk, was a Princess shape with a full train, adding to the regal and majestic look of the occasion. The intricate design of the dress was richly embroidered in gold, featuring gold beads, sequins, and diamante. The embroidery depicted the floral emblems of the British Isles and the Empire, which were also used on the purple velvet robe worn by the Queen. The English oak leaf and acorn were prominently featured in the design, symbolizing strength, endurance, and renewal. The year was 1937, and the coronation ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey in London. The dress, with its timeless beauty and exquisite craftsmanship, perfectly reflected the regal and ceremonial nature of the event. The 1930s were a decade of elegance and sophistication, and this photograph captures the essence of that era. The dress remains an iconic piece of royal fashion history, a testament to the skill and creativity of the Handley-Seymour design team, and a reminder of the grandeur and tradition of the British monarchy.
