The 1958 Season - Dresses for Dancing into the Dawn
Two suggestions for dance dresses for debutantes for the 1958 Season, the last year in which debs were presented to the Queen at Buckingham Palace. On the left, for summer dances, so many of which are now held in country houses a short dance dress by Jacque Heim of fine French cotton printed with blue roses. On the right, for Queen Charlottes Ball, one of the highlights of the Season, a traditional white ballgown, romantic, full-skirted and sweeping to the ground. The gown, made of white lace with a fichu and insertions of pale pink organza is by Fontana of Rome. Pictures photographed at 21 Ilchester Place, the home of Mr and Mrs Rolf Thoresen.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Step into the enchanting world of the 1958 debutante season, an era of elegance and sophistication that marked the last year debs were presented to Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace. On the left, a captivating summer dance dress by Jacques Heim graces the image. Crafted from fine French cotton, this short number is adorned with a mesmerizing print of blue roses, perfect for the multitude of summer garden parties and country house soirees. The lightweight fabric and delicate floral design embody the carefree spirit of the season. In stark contrast, the right side of the photograph showcases a traditional white ballgown, an essential piece for the grandest event of the season - Queen Charlotte's Ball. Created by Fontana of Rome, this romantic, full-skirted gown sweeps to the ground, evoking an air of timeless elegance. The elegant white lace fabric is accentuated by fichu and pale pink organza insertions, making it a fitting attire for the most memorable moments of a debutante's first social season. These exquisite dresses were captured in the elegant surroundings of 21 Ilchester Place, the London residence of Mr and Mrs Rolf Thoresen. As you gaze upon these stunning images, you can almost hear the soft strains of a live orchestra and feel the excitement in the air as these young women embarked on their journey into society.
