EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the exquisite artwork titled "Standing Female Figure Armor Drawing Sword Minerva" by Artokoloro. Created between 1535 and 1538, this pen and brown ink drawing with traces of black chalk on a sheet measuring approximately 7 13/16 x 4 5/16 inches (198 x 109 cm) is attributed to Parmigianino, also known as Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola. The drawing depicts a powerful and commanding figure of the goddess Minerva, or Bellona, in classical armor. She stands in a three-quarter view facing left, holding a sword while wearing a plumed helmet and skirted classical armor. The attention to detail is remarkable, capturing every intricate aspect of her attire. This artwork serves as a preparatory study for what could be an envisioned statuette or portrayal of a classical warrior. It is believed that Parmigianino created this piece for Pier Maria Rossi, Count of San Secondo. Currently housed at Museo del Prado in Madrid, this stunning drawing offers viewers an insight into Parmigianino's artistic process and his ability to bring mythological figures to life through his skilled hand. Another related study can be found at Di Capodimonte in Naples. Through this print from Liszt Collection, art enthusiasts can appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship behind Parmigianino's work while immersing themselves in the world of ancient mythology.
