POTTERY, 18th CENTURY. The clay, being very hard, was broken up by sledges (A), ground in a mortar (B) and sifted free of pebbles (C). Before going to the potter, the raw clay was roasted on an open grill (D) then thinned with water (G) and worked up in the shop (E) in the rear. Unfired vessels are hung on pegs (H) to await their turn in the kiln (F)
