Mappa Mundi is a Latin term meaning “world map”, and is an ancient form of cartography that was used to illustrate the world and its geography in the Middle Ages. Mappa Mundi maps were typically circular, with Jerusalem at their center, and featured illustrations of cities, mountains, rivers, and other geographical features. The maps also often included illustrations of religious figures such as Jesus Christ or the Virgin Mary. In addition to geographical information, Mappa Mundi maps often contained moral or spiritual messages about how people should live their lives according to Christian teachings.
