Title: "Louisa Dumont: A Lady of the Bedchamber and Witness to History" Louisa Dumont (circa 1785-1856) was an Englishwoman who rose to prominence in the early 19th century as a lady of the bedchamber to Queen Caroline of Brunswick. This portrait, believed to have been taken around 1820, offers a glimpse into the life of this intriguing historical figure. Born into a family of modest means, Dumont began her career as a servant in the household of the Duke of York. Her exceptional beauty and intelligence soon caught the attention of the royal court, and she was appointed as a lady's maid to Princess Charlotte, the future Queen of England. After Charlotte's untimely death in 1817, Dumont was appointed to the household of Queen Caroline, the widowed queen. Dumont's tenure as a lady of the bedchamber to Queen Caroline was marked by scandal and intrigue. In 1820, Queen Caroline was put on trial for adultery, and Dumont was called as a witness. Her testimony, which revealed intimate details of the queen's relationship with her alleged lover, was a turning point in the trial.
