EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning collection of embroidery, leather tapestry, and goldsmiths work from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The image is taken from "The Historic Styles of Ornament" a book translated from German by H. Dolmetsch in 1898. Figures 1 and 2 present exquisite examples of embroidery found in the Sammlung vaterlandischer Altertumer at Stuttgart. Figure 1 depicts an embroidered piece that once adorned an altar in the convent church at Weingarten, while Figure 2 displays an intricately designed chasuble also from the same collection. Moving on to Figurines 3, we are treated to a border made of stamped leather hangings. Its symmetrical patterns add depth and elegance to any space it adorns. Figures 4 and 5 showcase delicate decorations on the belly of a silver drinking cup with partial gilt. These remarkable details originate from a reproduction housed in Budapest's Hungarian "Landes-Kunstgewerbe-Museum". The lithograph captures every minute detail with precision and vibrant colors that bring these historical art pieces to life. It is evident that this print was created with great care by B. T Batford in London back in the late nineteenth century. This print serves as both a visual delight for art enthusiasts and historians alike. It allows us to appreciate the rich heritage of Germany's religious arts through its intricate designs, ornate patterns, stylized foliage motifs, floral elements, symmetry, and color palettes spanning across three centuries.
