EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the grandeur of the Robert Morris House. Located at 190 High Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this historic mansion holds a significant place in American history. It served as a residence for two esteemed presidents - George Washington during his presidency and later John Adams from 1797 to 1800. The image showcases the impressive exterior of the house, highlighting its architectural beauty that was characteristic of the 18th century. The wood engraving captures every intricate detail, from the elegant columns adorning the entrance to the symmetrical design of the building itself. As we gaze upon this snapshot frozen in time, we can almost imagine distinguished men strolling along on the sidewalk outside. This bustling city street was once frequented by prominent figures such as Washington and Adams, adding an air of significance to every step taken on this very pavement. Sadly, despite its historical importance and undeniable charm, this magnificent house met its demise when it was demolished in 1832.
