Created around 1525 by Bernaert van Orley, or an artist from his circle, this exquisite piece measures an impressive 366x422 cm and is currently held in a private collection. Woven with meticulous detail using wool and silk, the tapestry portrays various scenes symbolizing the winter month of December. In the center, we witness a butcher and his helper blood-letting a boar while assisted by a woman. To the left, two boys hold torches as they converse with their maid and her master and mistress. On the right side, a group gathers around a fire to keep warm amidst snow-covered buildings. Above these scenes stands the personification of December inscribed as FOLUS, accompanied by playful putti blowing gusts of wind across the sky filled with clouds and snowflakes.
