The Welsh mountain of Yr Wydffa (Mount Snowdon in English), is 1085 metres high, and is the tallest mountain in England and Wales. John Glover specialised in pictures of dramatic landscapes, generally bathed in a glow of golden light. His work was also influenced by the Sublime landscape style, in which artists responded to the awe-inspiring qualities of rocky landscape and hillside peaks. In this watercolour, Glover chose his viewpoint to create a traditionally composed and balanced picture, with the meandering stream tracing a zig-zag movement into the distance. The bluish colouring of the hills and inked details are typical of John Glovers technique. He emigrated to Tasmania in 1830.); Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums
