Created by Alexander Postels and Godefroy Engelmann as part of an extensive collection documenting the round-the-world voyage commissioned by Tsar Nicholas I, this particular print showcases the enchanting forests found on Peel Island.
The lithograph is one among sixty-five exquisite prints that were published after Captain Fedor Litke's expedition aboard the corvette Seniavin between 1826 and 1829. The journey began in Kronstadt, Russia's main naval base near Saint Petersburg, taking them through treacherous waters around Cape Horn to reach their destination in the Pacific Ocean.
In this mesmerizing scene captured on paper, we are transported to a serene forest setting on Peel Island. The intricate details rendered through lithography bring forth every leaf and branch with remarkable precision.
