The Azuchi-Momoyama period began in 1568 with political unification of warlords Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Oda Nobunaga and ended in 1600 following the Battle of Sekigahara. It was produced in 1843, a time when Japan was isolated and before traditional ways were overtaken by industrialisation. The map was drawn and engraved by J. Archer for Gilbert's Modern Atlas, published c.1843
