EDITORS COMMENTS
. This photograph transports us back in time to the early 20th century. The grandeur of Buckingham Palace is beautifully captured as it serves as the backdrop for the magnificent Queen Victoria memorial. Created by FGO Stuart, this print showcases the artistic brilliance of Sir Thomas Brock's sculpture and Sir Aston Webb's architectural design. Standing proudly at the heart of this Grade I listed building is a larger-than-life statue of Queen Victoria herself. With her gaze fixed towards The Mall, she exudes regal elegance and authority. Surrounding her are three dark patinated bronze statues representing the Angels of Justice, Truth, and Charity - symbolic figures that add depth and meaning to this monumental structure. The meticulous attention to detail is evident in every aspect of this memorial. Constructed from an astounding 2300 tons of white marble, its sheer size commands respect and admiration. Atop the pinnacle sits Victory with two seated figures, further emphasizing triumph over adversity. As we delve into history through this tinted photograph, we witness not only a remarkable piece of art but also a testament to British heritage. This image captures both the Edwardian era's opulence and London's enduring beauty. Thanks to FGO Stuart's skillful composition and William Gamble's editing prowess in Penroses Pictorial Annual 1911-1912 publication by AW Penrose (London), we can now appreciate this iconic landmark frozen in time forevermore.
