EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the majestic Obelisk at Forres, Moray, Scotland in all its glory. Standing tall at 23 feet high, this intricately carved stone is known as the Suenos Stone and holds a significant place in Scottish history. Believed to have been erected between the 9th and 10th centuries, it is thought to commemorate King Kenneth McAlpin's victory over the Picts. The artist behind this remarkable depiction is William Daniell, whose attention to detail brings out every intricate carving on the stone. The print showcases not only the obelisk but also provides a glimpse of the surrounding landscape. The rugged coastline of Moray Firth serves as a stunning backdrop for this historical monument. To ensure its preservation from erosion and vandalism, since the early 1990s, the Suenos Stone has been protected by armoured glass. This measure allows visitors to admire its beauty up close while safeguarding it for future generations. In addition to capturing this iconic landmark, Daniell's work also highlights other elements of nature found in Scotland during that era. From grazing cattle and sheep dotting the countryside to trees swaying gently in coastal winds, his engraving beautifully portrays both man-made structures and natural wonders. This print from Heritage Images offers viewers an opportunity to appreciate not only Scottish heritage but also William Daniell's artistic talent in bringing history alive through his detailed engravings.
