Sir Daniel Gooch (1816-1889) was Locomotive Superintendent of the GWR between 1837 to 1864. He was then chairman of the company from 1865 to his death. This colour image of him is an opaltype from the collection of STEAM. An opaltype is a positive photographic image on opaline, or milky, glass.
