The cable revolutionised communication in the 19th century and indicated the dawn of a new era with fast and almost immediate communication. Previously correspondence was sent by post carried on sailing and then steamships, taking between 2 - 6 weeks to cross the Atlantic.
The print was drawn by Louis le Breton and was published in Paris in the 1860s. © ss Great Britain Trust
