EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming print from July 1991, we see three enthusiastic Jamboree Scouts from the Lostwithiel area in Cornwall. These young adventurers are about to embark on an extraordinary journey that will connect them with scouts from different corners of the globe. Simon Bonney, a dedicated assistant district commissioner for St Austell and Par district, stands at the center of this vibrant trio. Alongside him are John Scorse and Stephen Hemmings, both hailing from Lanlivery. These spirited scouts have been chosen to represent their community in an incredible cultural exchange program during the World Scout Jamboree held in Korea. Before reaching their final destination, they will be welcomed into the homes of Japanese and Korean scouts, fostering friendships that transcend borders. Dressed proudly in their distinctive Cornish uniform, complete with shorts, woggle accessories, and classic panama hats; these boys radiate excitement for what lies ahead. Photographer Jonathan Barker captures this momentous occasion as they stand united before embarking on an unforgettable adventure. For eight days at the Jamboree campsite in Korea, our brave trio will immerse themselves among fellow scouts from all walks of life - sharing stories around campfires under starlit skies while forging lifelong bonds across cultures. This powerful image serves as a testament to the universal language of scouting: friendship, unity, and exploration beyond boundaries.
