Framed Print of Canterbury, BR poster, 1952

The poster shows the state visit of Queen Elizabeth to Canterbury in 1573, on the occasion of her fortieth birthday. Queen Elizabeth is shown with her retinue inside Canterbury Cathedral. Artwork by Claude Buckle (1905-1973), who originally trained as an architect, but later turned to pictorial art. He painted in both oil and watercolour and was a prolific poster artist for Great Western Railway (GWR) and BR. Much of his original poster artwork is held at the National Railway Museum.
