It has been announced that Mr Hugh Edmund Watts, Chief Inspector of Explosives at the Home Office, has been awarded the George Medal for opening, examining and dismantling a large number of bombs that had been sent to prominent people through the post. When somebody, such as Mr Ernest Bevin, received a bomb parcel, Mr Watts would go out on to the island in a solid built concrete hut, clang a steel door behind him, and get to work on the bomb.
