EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the joyous atmosphere of a children's street party in Mawson Street, Ardwick Green. The image takes us back to a significant moment in history - the coronation celebration of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. It was a time when the nation was still recovering from the shock of Edward VIII's abdication just months earlier. As we gaze at this snapshot frozen in time, we witness an entire community coming together to celebrate their new king. Children adorned with paper hats and patriotic attire gather around a long table filled with china cups, saucers, and plates. The scene is brimming with youthful exuberance as they eagerly await their treats. The air is filled with excitement and anticipation as these young royalists honor their country by raising their voices to sing "God Save the King". Union Jack flags flutter proudly above them, symbolizing unity and loyalty to the crown. This picture serves as a poignant reminder of simpler times when communities rallied together during moments of national significance. It encapsulates not only the spirit of celebration but also highlights how important it was for people to come together despite challenging circumstances. Preserved through Memory Lane Prints, this photograph allows us to relive that special day on May 12th, 1937 - an occasion where hope prevailed over uncertainty and patriotism united neighbors on Mawson Street.
