Precious pennies... Michael Dempsey adds one more coin to a chain of cash that went
Precious pennies... Michael Dempsey adds one more coin to a chain of cash that went across Hepworth to celebrate the villages feast. The mile of pennies linked the old school - now the village hall - to the new Hepworth Junior and Infants School. Local people gave the coins, which will be given to the two organisations. The event also included a procession, music from Hepworth Band, childrens races, country dancing and a visit from the Tetley shire horses. 24th June 1991

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness the heartwarming sight of Michael Dempsey adding one more coin to a remarkable chain of cash that stretches across the village of Hepworth. This extraordinary display was created to commemorate the village's feast and involved linking a mile-long chain of pennies from the old school, now transformed into a vibrant village hall, to the newly established Hepworth Junior and Infants School. The generosity of local people shines through as they contributed their precious coins for this noble cause. These donated funds will be distributed between both educational institutions, ensuring that they can continue providing valuable services to their respective communities. The event itself was nothing short of spectacular. A lively procession filled with music from the renowned Hepworth Band set an enchanting atmosphere. Children eagerly participated in races while country dancing added an element of traditional charm. To top it all off, visitors were treated to a special appearance by Tetley shire horses, bringing joy and excitement to everyone present on that memorable day - June 24th, 1991. This snapshot captures not only a moment frozen in time but also reflects themes such as charity, childhood innocence, community spirit, and fundraising efforts within Huddersfield's Kirklees district in West Yorkshire during the nostalgic era of the 1990s. It serves as a reminder that even small contributions can make a significant impact when united towards a common goal – creating lasting memories for generations to come.
