Taken in 1912, the image shows Booth in his later years, with a prominent white beard and piercing eyes that seem to bore into the soul of the viewer. Booth's military-style uniform, complete with epaulets and a sash, underscore his role as both a spiritual and temporal leader. Born in Nottingham, England in 1829, Booth's life was marked by a deep commitment to helping the poor and downtrodden.
