The image includes the Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca), also known as the Spur-thighed tortoise, with its distinctive keeled scutes and distinctive markings. The land tortoise (Cinyxis) is also depicted, a small, brown species native to Africa. Two European species are represented: the European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), with its circular, orange-bordered plates, and the Matamata turtle (Chelus fimbriata), a large, armored South American species with a distinctive, upturned snout.
