The image depicts a tense and chaotic scene of European plant hunters under attack from a group of South African natives in the mid-19th century. The plant hunters, dressed in safari attire and armed with rifles, are shown in a state of surprise and defense, as they are ambushed from the dense foliage of the African landscape.
