Born in 1773, Louis-Philippe was not of royal blood but rose to power through political maneuvering and popular support. He came to the throne during a time of great social and political upheaval in France, following the July Revolution of 1830 which overthrew King Charles X. Louis-Philippe's reign was marked by a commitment to constitutional monarchy and the restoration of order and stability. He was popular with the people, earning the nickname "Citizen King" for his efforts to address their concerns and improve their lives. However, his rule was also marked by controversy and opposition from various factions, including the conservative nobility and the radical republicans. Despite these challenges, Louis-Philippe remained a forceful and effective ruler, navigating the complex political landscape with skill and determination.
