The First Balkan War - An Allegory

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a powerful and evocative image that captures the spirit of the historic conflict between the Balkan League and the Ottoman Empire in 1912. In this print, the Forces of the Cross, represented by the flags of Serbia, Greece, Montenegro, and Bulgaria, are depicted as determined and resolute as they chase away the Forces of the Crescent, symbolizing the Muslim Ottoman armies. The allegorical depiction of this pivotal moment in European history is further emphasized by the inclusion of German Krupp guns, which were used by the Ottoman forces but ultimately contributed to their downfall.
