EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic Coronation Chair, containing the ancient stone that has witnessed the crowning of English sovereigns for over six centuries. The image, taken in 1902 by an unknown creator, transports us back to a time steeped in history and tradition. Commissioned by King Edward I in 1296, St Edwards Chair was designed to house the Stone of Destiny, a significant relic from Scotland. This sacred stone holds immense symbolic value as it represents the union between England and Scotland. The chair's intricate gothic design is beautifully captured in this monochrome photograph, highlighting its grandeur and importance. Located inside Westminster Abbey, this majestic throne stands as a testament to royal events throughout the ages. Its gilded details shimmer with regal splendor against the dark oak wood backdrop. A lion motif adorns each armrest, symbolizing strength and power. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece of history frozen in time, we are reminded of the enduring traditions that have shaped our world today. It serves as a reminder of past coronations where kings were crowned and kingdoms united under one ruler's authority. The Windsor Magazine Vol. XVI - June to November 1902 immortalizes this extraordinary artifact through its pages. Thanks to The Print Collector's preservation efforts, we can now appreciate this stunning visual representation of heritage for generations to come.
