EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print captured by Juan Carlos Ulate, we are transported to the enchanting Butterfly Garden in La Guacima, Costa Rica. The focal point of the image is a magnificent Morpho peleides butterfly delicately laying its eggs on a leaf plant. However, what makes this scene even more intriguing is the presence of two ants surrounding one egg, creating an unexpected juxtaposition between these tiny creatures. The photograph not only showcases the intricate beauty of nature but also sheds light on the thriving business of exporting butterfly cocoons from Costa Rica. With over 29 years of experience dedicated to this trade, owner Joris Brinkerhoff reveals that more than 80,000 cocoons from 70 different species are exported monthly to various parts of the world. The vibrant green hues and detailed textures displayed in this image highlight the surreal and creative aspects found within our natural environment. From the delicate scales on the butterfly's wings to the lush foliage surrounding it, every element contributes to a picturesque representation of life's wonders. This close-up perspective allows us to appreciate both the instinctual behavior exhibited by these wild animals and their role within their ecosystem. Furthermore, it reminds us that even in seemingly ordinary moments like an insect laying eggs or ants going about their daily tasks, there is extraordinary beauty waiting to be discovered if we take a moment to observe closely.
