Aneurin Bevan, also known as Nye Bevan (1897-1960), Welsh Labour politician. He served as Minister of Health in the mid-20th century, and was responsible for the creation of the National Health Service in 1948. Seen here with his wife, Jennie Lee (Baroness Lee of Asheridge, 1904-1988), Scottish Labour politician and MP, Arts Minister under Harold Wilson. She played a key role in the formation of the Open University

Phil Piratin and William Gallacher, Communist MPs
Philip (Phil) Piratin (1907-1995), member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, and MP for Mile End, East London (1945-1950). He opposed the anti-semitism of Mosley's British Union of Fascists, and was a defender of tenants rights. His parliamentary seat was abolished when boundary changes were made, and he was defeated when standing for the new Stepney constituency in 1950.
