This print depicts Zeno of Citium, the esteemed Greek philosopher and founder of the Stoic school of thought. Born in Citium, Cyprus around 334 BC, Zeno later moved to Athens to study under Crates of Thebes and Xenocrates. Around 300 BC, he established his own philosophical school, which became renowned for its unique blend of ethics, logic, and physics. Stoicism, as it came to be known, emphasized the importance of living in harmony with nature and accepting the natural order of things. Zeno's teachings emphasized virtue, wisdom, and the pursuit of happiness through the cultivation of reason and the denial of passions.
