This striking portrait captures the enigmatic figure of Selim II, also known as Sari or the Blonde Sultan, who ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1566 to 1574. Selim II is depicted here in traditional Ottoman attire, wearing a tall, conical turban and a flowing sari, which was a distinctive feature of the Ottoman court. The Sultan's blonde hair, a rarity among the Ottoman rulers, adds to his unique appearance. Selim II was born in 1524 and became Sultan at the age of 40 following the death of his father, Suleiman the Magnificent.
