EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, the Boeing XB-29G Superfortress 44-84043 is seen at Schenectady County Airport in New York, serving as a General Electric engine test-bed. The XB-29G, manufactured under license by Bell Aircraft Company in Marietta, Atlanta, Georgia, was delivered to the United States Army Air Force on June 26, 1945, but later converted into a flying test bed for General Electric jet engines. The image showcases the XB-29G's unique configuration, with a J47 engine mounted in the bomb bay on a retractable trapeze.
