This evocative image captures the regal presence of Richard II of England, also known as Richard of Bordeaux (1367-1400). Born in Bordeaux, France, Richard ascended to the English throne at the tender age of ten following the death of his grandfather, Edward III. His reign, which lasted from 1377 until his deposition in 1399, was marked by a period of political instability and conflict. Richard's seal, depicted in this print, bears the image of a lion and the motto "Ich Dien," which translates to "I serve." This emblem symbolizes his commitment to his duty as king and his devotion to serving his people.
