Patrick Cotter O'Brien, also known as the "Bristol Giant," was an Irishman born around 1760, who gained notoriety for his extraordinary height. Measuring an impressive 8 feet 7 inches tall, O'Brien became a popular attraction in Europe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This photograph, believed to have been taken circa 1806, captures the awe-inspiring figure of the giant in his later years. Born in County Cork, Ireland, O'Brien's height was discovered when he was a teenager, and he soon began touring Europe with various circuses and fairs. He was often billed as the "Irish Giant," and his size and strength were a source of fascination for people of all ages.
