This exquisite miniature portrait captures the stern and resolute visage of Sir Douglas Haig, a pivotal figure in the history of the British military and the First World War. Sir Douglas Haig (1861-1928) served as the Commander-in-Chief of the British Expeditionary Force from 1915 to 1918, leading the Allied forces during some of the most significant battles of the war. Haig's military career spanned over four decades, and he held numerous prestigious titles, including Knight Grand Cross of the Bath (GCB), Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB), Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO), and Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB). The miniature portrait was painted by Alice James (1887-1930), a talented artist who specialized in miniature portraits.
