: John Wordsworth (1843-1911), a prominent churchman and Bishop of Salisbury, is depicted in this elegant photograph. Born into a distinguished ecclesiastical family, John was the son of the Bishop of Lincoln and a relative of the renowned poet, William Wordsworth. John's lineage was deeply rooted in the Anglican Church, and he followed in the footsteps of his esteemed forebears. His father, the Reverend Edward Wordsworth, served as the Bishop of Lincoln from 1845 to 1856, while his uncle, Christopher Wordsworth, was the Dean of Westminster from 1843 to 1856. John's religious vocation was nurtured in this environment, and he pursued a career in the Church. He was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge, before being ordained as a deacon in 1867 and a priest in 1868. John's dedication to his faith and his family's legacy led him to rise through the ranks of the Church, eventually becoming the Bishop of Salisbury in 1891.
