This evocative print by Austrian artist Gustave Doré depicts a poignant moment in the biblical narrative of the Jewish exile to Babylon during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar II (605-562 BC). Following the defeat of Jerusalem in 597 BC, the Babylonian king took many of the city's elite captive, including the prophets Ezekiel and Daniel, and transported them to the eastern kingdom.
